Constitution Week
Summary
Constitution Week is an annual civic observance held September 17–23, commemorating the U.S. Constitution. The tradition was initiated by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1955 and formalized by Congress through Public Law 915, signed by President Eisenhower in August 1956. The City of Fairfax has marked the occasion with formal proclamations at City Council meetings on at least two consecutive years. On September 9, 2025, Mayor Catherine S. Reed presented the proclamation to the Fairfax County Chapter of the DAR, with DAR Constitution Week Committee Chair Katie Jackson accepting on the chapter's behalf. On September 8, 2026, the Council again presented a proclamation acknowledging September 17–23, 2026 as Constitution Week, continuing the annual practice.
