Summary

The Northfax East-West Roadway is a City of Falls Church capital project to construct a new east-west roadway connecting Chain Bridge Road/University Drive Extended to Cambridge Road (also described as University Drive Extended to Cambridge Road in the September transcript). The project has an estimated total cost of approximately $21 million, funded roughly half by NVTA 70% funds and half by VDOT Revenue Sharing funds. The project has twice been included in City Council-endorsed Revenue Sharing Funding applications to VDOT: first on May 13, 2025, when Council unanimously adopted Resolution R-25-09 endorsing submissions for three projects including the Northfax East-West Roadway; and again on September 9, 2025, when Council unanimously adopted an updated Resolution R-25-27 covering the same three projects with an application total of up to $10 million in Revenue Sharing funds. The Planning Commission was briefed on the May Council action at its June 23, 2025 regular meeting. The project remains in progress pending VDOT funding decisions.
