McCarthy participated in the Northfax Linear Park design guidelines committee meeting on July 9, 2026. In a July 13, 2026 transcript, he expressed concern that if the linear park is not executed well it will effectively be a 'glorified sidewalk' rather than a true linear park, and indicated he hopes the process produces a stringent set of guidelines to ensure meaningful public amenity from developers seeking additional density.
